Tips for creating moments of magic with children and families:

  • Bubbles

  • Add an element of surprise

  • Surprise grab bag (paper bag with small prizes as motivation)

  • Songs!

  • Dance class time  - Child is the “teacher” - for 5 songs

  • Following the leader games

  • Straws (blowing bubbles)

  • Deep breaths

  • Obstacle courses

  • Child is the teacher (ex. show the rest of the family how to draw a cat)

  • Sensory stimulation (rocking, deep pressure, back patting, running, jumping, etc.) using the isopriciple of meeting the child where they are and slowing changing tempo/speed to a more regulated state. Use language like “I see your body looks like ……….”

  • Rain walks

  • Get Outside

  • Change of routine. (Ex. pick up the mess AFTER we run around the house 3 times - for a sensory reset & element of surprise).

  • Be the student and let the child lead.
